News and Announcements

Relay for Life a Huge Success!

Apple Valley Animal Hospital raised over $1500 in donations for the American Cancer Society's Annual Relay for Life. The Relay is a way for the community to celebrate those who are fighting cancer, to remember those who have been lost and fight back through research to find a cure.

Jessica headed up our team for a 24 hour walk around the track at Apple Valley's Ampitheatre, offering information about ovarian cancer. Patsy, one of our treatment technicians, also made her famous cake to assist us in making extra money for the cause.

A special thank you to all of our clients who donated to this worthy cause - as well as the participants who braved the high winds! Pictures will be posted soon!

Microchipping through Homeagain

Losing your pet is scary! Make sure that your pet comes back to you safely with a permanent ID onboard.

Why Microchip?

Tags and collars often get worn or fall off your pet - leaving them without contact information to get them back home safely! Microchips are a permanent part of your pet. They are implanted under the skin and are only activated when a scanned sweeps over their shoulder blades. Each chip has an individual number encoded into it, allowing for veterinary staff, humane organizations and USDA officials to return your pet to you.

Is the implantation painful?

  • The pain is no worse than receiving a vaccination.
  • Anesthetic is not required
  • Implantation just takes seconds!

What is the benefit of getting my chip from AVAH and Homeagain?

Homeagain is a reliable company which offers chipping services for cats and dogs. They also offer european chips if your pet may be traveling outside of the US. The chipping process is done by trained veterinary technicians and takes only minutes! Part of your invoice fee for the chip registers you for one year with the Homeagain premium package:

1.     Web access to make key-chain cards info cards with your pet's veterinary information and picture
2.     An insurance policy of $3000 to assist you with vet bills if your pet is injured while missing
3.     Access to phone advise/poison control 24 hours a day
4.     If your pet is lost, print Lost posters from their website - the contact number will be to Homeagain - keep your info safe.
5.     If your pet is lost, Homeagain will contact (via FAX) local hospitals, animal shelters and registered pet finder volunteers.
6.     Homeagain will furnish you with a list of shelters in your area.

How much does it cost?
Our Puppy and Kitten kits offer microchipping and the first year registration for only $20. Other patients can be chipped with just a technician appointment Monday through Saturday for only $34.70!

Do I have to keep up with the yearly registration of $14.97?
No. When your pet is chipped, we have paid for your first year of registration. Thereafter, you may opt to continue the Premium Service (which includes all of the benefits listed above) or just have your pet registered for the identification service at no extra fee. If you wish to start up with the Premium package again at a later date, you may do so for the same fee at any time!

AAHA Certification

We are proud members of the American Animal Health Association (AAHA). AAHA is the only organization that accredits animal hospitals throughout the U.S. and Canada. Accredited hospitals voluntarily choose to be evaluated on over 800 standards in the following areas: quality of care, diagnostic & pharmacy, management, medical records, and facility. Each hospital adheres to the highest-quality standards available, which helps ensure the best care for your pet. Last month, we passed our inspection with flying colors! Apple Valley Animal Hospital is one of only three accredited hospitals in the High Dsert - and the first to attain such accreditation in this area. Our current inspection revealed that our facility is far beyond just the mandatory requirements of the AAHA standards! This has been a wonderful team effort and one of the most obvious ways that we can show our clients that we take the care of our patients seriously. Want to know more about AAHA? Visit their website at: www.healthypet.com.
